National Family Benefit Scheme

The National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) is a welfare scheme under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) of the Government of India. It provides one-time financial assistance to a Below Poverty Line (BPL) family upon the death of its primary breadwinner. The scheme aims to offer immediate financial support to the bereaved family to help them cope with the sudden loss of income.

Eligibility

1. Applicant must be an Indian citizen.

2. The deceased must have been the primary breadwinner of the family.

3. The deceased should have been between 18 and 59 years of age at the time of death.

4. The family should belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.

5. The surviving head of the family or eligible legal heir can apply.

6. The applicant must satisfy all eligibility conditions prescribed by the Government.

7. Mobile Number

8. Bank Passbook (Aadhaar-linked, if applicable)

1. Income Certificate (if applicable)

2. Family Member Certificate / Family Tree

3. Self-Declaration or Affidavit

4. Any other document prescribed by the competent authority

Processing Time

15–45 Working Days
(Subject to verification and approval by the concerned authority.)

Government Benefit

One-time financial assistance of ₹20,000 (as per the current NFBS guidelines).

Terms & Conditions

The applicant must provide accurate and genuine information.
Original documents may be required during verification.
The deceased must have been the primary breadwinner of a BPL family.
Incomplete or incorrect applications may be rejected.
The concerned department may request additional documents if necessary.
The financial assistance is released only after successful verification of eligibility.
Submission of false information may result in rejection of the application, cancellation of benefits, recovery of pension amount, and legal action under applicable laws.
