Driving Licence

A Driving Licence (DL) is an official document issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It authorizes an individual to drive motor vehicles on public roads in India. A valid driving licence serves as proof of identity and is mandatory for legally operating a vehicle.

Eligibility

1. Applicant must be an Indian citizen.

2. Applicant must meet the minimum age requirement:

  • 16 years (with parental consent) for gearless two-wheelers up to 50cc.
  • 18 years for motorcycles with gear and light motor vehicles.
  • 20 years (or as per state rules) for commercial vehicles.

3. Applicant must hold a valid Learner’s Licence before applying for a permanent Driving Licence.

4. Applicant must pass the prescribed driving test conducted by the RTO.
